About Bishop David

The Rt. Rev. David Hamid, was born in Scotland, to Scottish and Burmese parents, and educated in Canada.

Ordained in the Anglican Church of Canada, he served in the Diocese of Niagara. Subsequently he was mission co-ordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean for the Anglican Church of Canada and then the Director of Ecumenical Affairs and Studies of the Anglican Communion.

In October 2002, he was consecrated as Suffragan Bishop in Europe and works from his office in that great European city called London.

He has been married since 1978 to his wife, Dr Colleen Hamid, who is a medical researcher, and they have two children.

Outside his work for the Diocese in Europe, David has a particular interest in languages, films, and gadgets.

Bishop David has a strong commitment to addressing the plight of refugees entering Europe. In ecumenical relations, he is co-chairman of IARCCUM, the International Anglican-Roman Catholic Commission for Unity and Mission, a member of the Anglican-Old Catholic International Coordinating Council (AOCICC), a trustee of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland, the chairman of the Church of England’s Porvoo Panel, and a governor of the Anglican Centre in Rome. He will be addressing the 2019 Gibraltar Archdeaconry Synod on Building the Body of Christ.

During this retreat, he will be leading discussion and reflection on harvesting the fruits of our ecumenical partnerships and ways in which drawing upon these can aid in developing deeper spirituality. What can we learn for our own prayer life and spiritual life from our ecumenical partnerships?
